MG(Ret) Robert D. Carslon Joins M&J Engineering July 15, 2020…New Hyde Park, NY……M&J Engineering (M&J) today announced that Major General (MG) (Ret.) Robert D. Carlson has joined the firm as Vice President and Branch Manager. He will be based in the firm’s Virginia office and responsible for pursuing work with Federal and state agencies in Washington, DC; Virginia; and Maryland as well as continuing to grow the firm’s mentor protégé partnership with selected large major engineering firms. “We are delighted to have someone with MG Carlson’s exceptional experience and reputation join M&J,” said Asad Malik, Senior Vice President, Federal Group. ‘He will greatly enhance our ability to pursue major public sector work as a prime consultant as well as a major subconsultant in highly complex projects. Also, his broad organizational knowledge will be of immense value as we continue to grow our firm in size and market sectors.” MG Carlson brings to M&J over two decades of senior executive leadership in program, financial, operations, and engineering management along with directing multifaceted organizations ranging in size from dozens to thousands of employees. In addition, he has broad expertise in managing complex mega-projects with a proven track record of delivering on-time and on-budget results. Prior to joining M&J, MG Carlson served as the Senior Military Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Manpower and Reserve Affairs (ASA M&RA), headquartered at the Pentagon. His responsibilities included managing the development of the new Army Human Capital Strategy for acquiring, employing, and retaining military members, which affected 60% of the service’s annual budget. He also supervised the planning and execution of the Secretary’s Strategic Plan to establish organizational vision, goals, and priorities. Previous experience also included serving as the Commanding General of the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Transatlantic Division where he led an organization of over 1,000 personnel with operations in 18 Middle Eastern and Central Asian countries and managed an $8 billion portfolio of large-scale infrastructure projects, military construction, foreign military sales, and operations and maintenance service programs; serving as the Commanding General of the 372nd Engineering Brigade, where he led the largest engineering brigade in the US Army Reserve, spanning 12 states and over $500 million in horizontal and vertical construction assets; and Chief of Staff for the Afghanistan Mission Directorate in Kabul. MG Carlson holds an MS degree in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri at Rolla, an MS degree in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College, and a BS degree in General Engineering from the US Military Academy at West Point.
