MTA - Metro-North Railroad Penn Station Access

M&J Engineering, P.C., as part of a team, is providing quality control services for the Penn Station Access design-build project, which will provide Metro-North customers with service into and out of Penn Station by diverting certain New Haven Line trains via Amtrak’s Hell Gate Line in the Bronx. The project will consist of design and construction of additional passenger tracks, traction power substations, overhead contact systems, new interlockings, updated communication systems, and new signal systems, and the retrofit or replacement of undergrade bridges within Amtrak’s Hell Gate Line right of way. Project elements include:

  • Four new state-of-the-art ADA accessible Metro-North passenger stations will be located in the East Bronx at Hunts Point, Parkchester/Van Nest, Morris Park, and Co-Op City.
  • Over 19 miles of new and rehabilitated track work will take place along the Hell Gate Line right-of-way. Metro-North’s New Rochelle Yard in Westchester County will be rehabilitated.
  • Four new and one reconfigured interlocking will be constructed in the project area.
  • The bridges at the Bronx River, Bronxdale Avenue, Eastchester Road, and Pelham Lane will be rehabilitated or replaced.
  • The power and communications infrastructure will be modernized. Signal systems, traction power, catenary, third rail, and substations will be upgraded along the corridor.
