M&J is the prime consultant to provide routine maintenance as well as emergency repairs to approximately $300 million of ITS system assets along I-278, I-95, and the Bruckner Interchange in the Bronx County; the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens County; and the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC) in Long Island City, Queens. M&J is providing the resident engineer and a significant number of inspectors with varied capabilities to monitor the operations of the maintenance contractor and coordinate the activity within the Regional ITS staff.
ITS assets include CCTV Cameras, Portable Variable Message Signs (PVMS), Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) Stations, HAR Beacon Signs, Video Image Detectors, Ranging Radar Detectors, Vehicle Classification Detectors, Variable Message Signs (VMS), 20,000+ meters of Fiber Optic Cable maintenance, Microwave Transceiver Set Assemblies, Splice Maintenance, and all electronic installations.
All maintenance work is coordinated with the central JTMC. Additionally, under this project, a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system is being installed to manage all the field equipment and spare equipment located at a storage facility, as well as manage the emergency repairs.
